Exfoliation: How Much Is Too Much?

You will learn about more than artistry makeup at your cosmetology school. You will also learn the science behind healthy and unhealthy skin, as well as the proper techniques and products to keep skin consistently healthy. One of your most important lessons will revolve around exfoliation and when to use it. Here is a brief look at how much exfoliation may be too much:

Exfoliation is a necessary step to remove dirt, dead skin cells, and makeup buildup on the skin’s top layers. This practice can revitalize the look and feel of skin, but it can also cause sensitivity and redness if performed too often. The common rule for exfoliation is about 2 to 3 times a week followed up with a healthy moisturizer. If you or your client have extremely sensitive skin, then exfoliate once a week. Anything more than 3 times a week can cause damage to the skin.
